Penalty-Factor-Free Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for 2-Dim Stokes Problems

چکیده
This paper presents two new finite element methods for two-dimensional Stokes problems. These methods are developed by relaxing the constraints of the Crouzeix–Raviart nonconforming P1 finite elements. Penalty terms are introduced to compensate for lack of continuity or the divergence-free property. However, there is no need for choosing penalty factors, and the formulations are symmetric. These new methods are easy to implement and avoid solving saddle-point linear systems. Numerical experiments are presented to illustrate the proved optimal error estimates.

Exponential convergence of mixed hp-DGFEM for Stokes flow in polygons
Over the last few years, several mixed discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods (DGFEM) have been proposed for the discretization of incompressible fluid flow problems. We mention here only the piecewise solenoidal discontinuous Galerkin methods introduced in [5,25], the local discontinuous Galerkin methods of [12,11], and the interior penalty methods studied in [24,33,18]. Some of the mai...
متن کاملDiscontinuous Galerkin methods for the Stokes equations using divergence-free approximations
A Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method with solenoidal approximation for the simulation of incompressible flow is proposed. It is applied to the solution of the Stokes equations. The Interior Penalty Method is employed to construct the DG weak form. For every element, the approximation space for the velocity field is decomposed as direct sum of a solenoidal space and an irrotational space. This a...
متن کاملSymmetric Interior Penalty Dg Methods for the Compressible Navier–stokes Equations I: Method Formulation
In this article we consider the development of discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods for the numerical approximation of the compressible Navier–Stokes equations. For the discretization of the leading order terms, we propose employing the generalization of the symmetric version of the interior penalty method, originally developed for the numerical approximation of linear self-adjoint sec...
متن کاملHigh-order Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for Incompressible Flows
Abstract. The spatial discretization of the unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is stated as a system of Differential Algebraic Equations (DAEs), corresponding to the conservation of momentum equation plus the constraint due to the incompressibility condition. Runge-Kutta methods applied to the solution of the resulting index-2 DAE system are analyzed, allowing a critical comparison...
متن کاملEfficient Matrix-free Implementation of Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for Compressible Flow Problems
We discuss the matrix-free implementation of Discontinuous Galerkin methods for compressible flow problems, i.e. the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. For the spatial discretization the CDG2 method and for temporal discretization an explicit Runge-Kutta method is used. For the presented matrix-free approach we discuss asynchronous communication, shared memory parallelization, and automated ...
